Proving Ground was the last entry in the Tony Hawk skateboarding series to be developed by Activision Neversoft. It was released in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Page 44 studios ported the game to the PlayStation 2 and the Wii. The story mode is divided across three paths: “career”, “hardcore”, and “rigger”. Goals have bonus objectives with additional cash rewards based on whether players clear the targets of “AM”, “PRO”, or “SICK”. Traditional THPS arcade-style objectives can be experienced by using arcade cabinets found across different levels.
In THPG, Players guide a customizable player character across story events in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. On the definitive version developed for seventh generation consoles, the game’s 9 levels were interconnected, with transition areas between some. While some landmarks are squashed together or invented for convenience, many locations featured in the game were pulled very closely from real life, like Love Park and Baltimore Inner Harbor.
