Ame-iro Cocoa (in Hawaii & Ame-Con!!)

The staff of the Rainy Color café are always up to something. A new branch has opened in Honolulu, Hawaii. Nozomu Tokura has been appointed as the manager of the new store. With more new characters, will he be able to open up the store there successfully?

A half-attentive viewer can tell that Ame-iro Cocoa is a very low-budget production right from first blush: the runtime is silly and there are lots of static dialogue scenes and panning shots. When I first encountered this series, I honestly thought it was something along the lines of a project for an animation school, especially when the voiced animal characters showed up.

Two ‘seasons’ are focused on a branch in Hawaii and also feature some prominent Hawaiian locations: Ame-iro Cocoa in Hawaii and Ame-Con!!. Most of these location drops are in the opening animations, but some are featured in the episodic animation, like the convention center, the airport, and the beach.

Several live tie-in events took place in Hawaii according to the anime’s official website, including some newspaper and radio appearances.
