
Two different students – a successful but aloof academic and a rebellious but kindhearted delinquent – form a friendship through their love of listening to and performing jazz.
Shinichiro Watanabe’s 12-episode adaptation is based on a 10-volume manga written by Yuki Kodama. A live-action drama movie was produced in 2018. This production was another collaboration between Watanabe and Yoko Kanno, similarly to Cowboy Bebop.
Kids on the Slope takes place between a city called Saebo and an island in the Kujuku Islands called Kuroshima, both in Nagasaki Prefecture. A live-action drama was also produced which has some of its own filming locations. Nagasaki City has its own jazz festival and jazz clubs are plentiful.
