Grand Blue is a manga with one anime season which is about sea diving on paper, but really turns out to be a gag manga about drinking with your friends and being a a college guy. Iori Kitahara moves to Izu for his freshman year at university, and moves into a back room at Grand Blue, his uncle’s scuba diving shop. Iori has high hopes and dreams about having the ideal college experience and romance, which are crushed when he enters the shop and sees the boozy activities of the university diving club members who frequent the shop and don’t really like to wear pants.

Izu is modeled after Kawana Port in Kanagawa. The university is actually a resort hotel in real life. The trip to Okinawa is very true-to-life and takes place on Miyakojima.
