After the real-world 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, Tokyo student Natsuna receives a message from Itsuki, a friend living in Kumamoto she met through an online game and hadn’t heard from for four years. Itsuki’s message only contained a request to meet and an illustration of a landscape. After the game’s servers suddenly shuts down, Natsuna travels to Kumamoto to try and find her. The short-runtime anime was directly commissioned by the Kumamoto Prefectural Government to promote its recovery efforts and promote tourist interest.
The locations featured in the anime are all very true to life, given the nature of the project as a tourism advertising tool. Many of these places are mentioned by name in the series and feature on the promotional artwork, like Kumamoto Castle, Sakitsu Church, and Aso Kumamoto Airport. The Kumamon installation at the prefab town hall building is gone, but the building still remains.
