Hairi Takahara has just moved to the rural island of Torishirojima in the Seto Inland Sea, which has a population of about 2,000 people. Hairi grew up in an urban setting, but after an unpleasant incident, he uses the recent death of his grandmother as an excuse to come to the island to take care of her estate sale. Once there, he gets to know four girls, who become the narrative focus of the story.
Summer Pockets is a 2016 bishoujo visual novel from Key which has now been adapted into an anime. The original concept was workshopped by Maeda Jun, and the game proper was directed by Kai. An expansion called Summer Pockets Reflection Blue was released in 2020. Torishirojima is a fictional island with locations based on two islands in the Seto Inland Sea: Megijima and Ogijima. According to an interview in Dengeki G’s magazine, location research was conducted in Naoshima, Ogijima, and Megijima during the production of the visual novel. The iconic lighthouse is based on a real structure on the far side of Ogijima.
Some poking around the anime’s official website reveals that it is copyrighted by 鳥白島観光協会, or the “Torishirojima Tourism Association” as it appears on Crunchyroll. Presumably this is the acting name of the anime’s production company. The news section of the website includes an announcement for a seichijunrei collaboration. The voice actors for Summer Pocket were involved in the creation of an auditory self-guided tour produced as a tie-in with the city of Takamatsu. Locations with voice recordings from the anime cast are split between pilgrimage spots and general nearby tourist spots.
