Fruits Basket

Tooru Honda has always been fascinated by the story of the Chinese zodiac that her beloved mother told her as a child. A sudden family tragedy leaves her all alone. She forced to live in a tent, but little does she know that her temporary home resides on the private property of the esteemed Souma family. Stumbling upon their home one day, she encounters Shigure, an older Souma cousin, and Yuki, the “prince” of her school. Tooru will find that living with the Soumas is an unexpected adventure filled with laughter and romance. (Adapted from MAL)

Locations in Fruits Basket, both the original and remakes, are split between Tokyo and Kyoto, with some additional locations around Nara Park. Locations in Tokyo sort of follow the Tama River, from Tamagawa Station to Den-en chofu and Musashi-Kosugi station. Locations in Kyoto feature some famous spots like Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari, but there are also some more niche spots like Tokufu-ji, Imamiya, and Daitoku-ji. I was unable to find any official Fruits Basket seichijunrei content or location-relevant collaboration events.

Den-en-chofu seems like an interesting neighborhood to me due to this striking half-circular street grid, which gives off a European impression. This may be the first time I’ve seen such a pattern in Japan across all my mapping, and it leaves a strong visual effect from the center, especially from the ‘air’.
